TIPSY Today™ with Rogena — Home of Anything GRAMMAR™ — A Footprint of RMJ Manuscript Service LLC
Well, I've been away for a while. Away from the blog, anyway. I continue to post on my Facebook Business Page and my personal Facebook Timeline, including our TIPSY Today with Rogena posts and other helpful links.
I'm going to try to do better in the future with posting things here and then back to sending out our 'weekly' newsletter, too.
Today, I'm sharing a link from Copyediting.com.
The blog is titled:
A Comma Problem among Editors.
This blog spoke to me as I mentor others in writing, editing, and all things grammar. Most of you know I use rule-based editing. What many might not know is there are many things in grammar where hard and fast rules do not apply. Many would rather an editor tell them something should be changed for this reason or another and how it's THE only way that's correct. However, this just isn't the case. There are a lot of rules, so don't get me wrong, but often times, things can be punctuated several different ways and would still be considered correct.
Like writing, editing is truly an ART. And this blog brings that view to the forefront. As a writer improves their craft, so does an editor. Let us teach you. Allow us learn, too. We can all fine-tune our craft. Then we can go far together.
Yes!! Editing IS an art, too. It truly is......
FROM THE BLOG on Copyediting.com — A Comma Problem among Editors:
"Unnecessary isn't the same as wrong."
"Sometimes we editors like to think that how we edit a sentence is the right way, and every other way is wrong. But it's not always so black and white. And if editors have a hard time remembering this, it's even worse for those whose work we edit. If there's a question of grammar or usage, non-editors often expect us to have a straightforward if-this-then-that answer that points out the One True Way."
"At times like these, it can help to remind them — and ourselves — that editing is as much an art as a science."
