COMMAS after 'so' ... yes or no?
Should there be a comma after the word 'so' when it begins a sentence? Such as: "So, I try not to wear white on days I drink coffee."
Some think it is treated like 'but' or 'and' while others think it should be treated like the word 'thus'—is there a 'rule' to tell you if or when you should use a comma after the word so?
The short answer is no... there isn't. The short answer should also include that not only is there not a rule, but it just isn't necessary to put a comma after so when it begins a sentence.
This is what the Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS) says in their online forum:
