Colleen Snibson lives near Melbourne, Australia, with her husband and two beautiful daughters. She has been editing professionally since 2014 after she completed on online course through Open Colleges for her Certificate in Professional Editing and Proofreading. After brushing up her skills, she started her own editing business, Colleen Snibson Editing. Not long after Colleen started editing full time, she and Rogena met online. After a year of mentorship, a wonderful bond and friendship had formed.

Now, Colleen and Rogena have decided to join forces. Still working separately with their own editing businesses, they now offer editing and proofreading together--Two Editors, Two Red Pens, and a Little Red Ink. Understanding the relationship between author and editor is a central part of publishing your manuscript. I've been told it's a relationship similar to being married. I'm not sure how I feel about that. However, it is a vital part of publishing, so you want to find an editor you can relate to and who will do the best editing possible without changing your style or your voice.

I am someone who reads a work of fiction with a critical eye. My expertise is in all things grammar, punctuation, and clarity. I aim to improve grammar, spelling, characterization, and general inconsistencies in the story. This includes working through awkwardness, logic flaws, and sentences that could be confusing to a reader, before you publish your book. I am a professional with an eye for detail. Describing my editing in one word, I believe the word would be thorough.

I am a copy editor or copyeditor—depending on what style guide or dictionary you use. One who seeks to preserve your style, your perspective, and your voice while paying attention to every aspect of detail, including typographical errors that might have been missed in previous beta and proofreading. I am committed to you, the author, and strive to make you look your very best. I strive for excellence.

My focus is concise literary editing, focusing on every word—word-by-word, line-by-line manuscript editing. I focus on both Rules-Based Editing as well as Analysis-Based.

I am dedicated to you, the writer, and to your story being told in your voice while focusing on how the reader will perceive it. My goal is to be ‘in sync’ with you, the author, as I am editing. Remember, I am not an author, but a reader. So I am a reader first, which means I am not out to rewrite your story.

Along with editing your book, I will tell you if a sentence isn't fluent or coherent. I will suggest a clearer way of writing the sentence or might suggest a better word or proper word usage. I will tell you if something confuses me within the story.

The Faces of Karen

Karen Jones resides in South Jersey with her wife (Rogena) and their cats. Her love of animals is unquestioned. She likes to travel and hanging with her friends. Karen works full time in management for a subcontractor to the FAA. However, when she isn't busy with all things documentation, taking care of her cats, or walking on the beach, we put her to work proofreading manuscripts for our clients. Karen has now been put to work formatting and marketing our line of RMJ Journals, too.
